Dr. Isaac Amponsah is a Senior Advisor, Regulatory at the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER). Isaac joined the AER in November 2013. Isaac has held several positions with the AER prior to his current role. Isaac’s responsibilities at the AER includes leading the development and implementation of high priority regulatory change initiatives within the AER in support of shifting policies, legislation and innovation. His recent work includes updates to several of AER’s directives including requirements for carbon capture, utilization and storage and hydrogen. Isaac has over two decades of experience working for federal government, provincial government, Ghana Forestry Commission, consulting, and as a regulator. During his career he has provided technical, policy, stakeholder engagement and regulatory expertise to projects in the oil and gas, mining (oil sands and Coal), quarry, sand and gravel and forestry sectors. Isaac holds a BSc. in Natural Resources Management from the University of Science and Technology - Ghana, a MSc. in Forest Science from Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario, and a PhD. in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition from the University of Alberta, Canada.
