Chad Cathcart is currently Director-Research for Stelco Inc., an integrated steelmaker based in Hamilton, Ontario. Chad graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1997 and has worked at Stelco for the past 25 years in various technical positions including 11 years as Quality Manager for Steelmaking & Casting at Stelco’s Lake Erie Works and 3 years as Quality & Product Metallurgy Manager for Hot Strip Rolling & Pickling. In 2019, he moved to his current position as Director-Research with responsibility for Stelco’s Product and Process development activities as well being the technical lead for Stelco’s Sustainability and Decarbonization initiatives including Carbon Capture technology integration.
Chad has been a licensed Professional Engineer since 2000 and was awarded the 2019 Institute Medal from the American Iron & Steel Institute and the 2022 Richard J. Freuhan Award from the Association for Iron & Steel Technology.
