What is this Workshop About?

As sustainability becomes a strategic priority across industries, understanding how to measure and manage environmental impacts has become essential. Accurate quantification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a critical step in any decarbonization effort, enabling organizations to track progress, identify emission hotspots, and make informed decisions. This workshop addresses the growing need to understand how emissions are measured both at the product and organizational level. It offers a practical introduction to life cycle assessment (LCA) and carbon accounting, with a focus on real-world application in the context of carbon management.

The LCA component of the workshop will explore fuel pathways – from extraction to combustion – highlighting key standards, methodologies, and tools used to assess environmental impact. Participants will engage with case study examples and gain hands-on insight into how LCA informs emissions analysis.

The carbon accounting segment will introduce participants to the principles and concepts of GHG accounting and reporting at the organizational level. It will cover the development of GHG inventories, with a focus on identifying and categorizing emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3. Participants will learn how to apply recognized frameworks to measure, categorize, and report emissions accurately, supporting transparency and informed climate action.

By the end of the session, participants will have a foundational understanding of both approaches and how they support data-driven decision-making in climate action strategies. This workshop is designed to help professionals stay ahead of sustainability trends and make informed decisions using credible, data-driven tools.

Who Should Attend?

  • Industry professionals in energy, fuels, or carbon capture technologies
  • Sustainability and ESG professionals
  • Engineers, analysts, and consultants working on carbon management or LCA
  • Policy makers, advisors and regulators
  • Researchers and academics in environmental science and engineering
  • Anyone seeking to understand and broaden their knowledge of LCA and carbon accounting

What Are the Learning Outcomes?

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamentals of LCA and its application to fuel pathways.
  • Identify key concepts and standards in organizational GHG accounting and reporting.
  • Practice developing GHG inventories, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Inspect case studies and tools used in LCA and carbon accounting.
  • Interpret emission data for decision-making and climate action strategies.
  • Apply recognized frameworks for environmental impact assessment and reporting.
