The Hon. Mr Streicker is a professional engineer and a climate scientist who in 2007, was one of the reviewers for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment Report for the polar chapter and has also served as a lecturer at Yukon University and a science advisor at the Yukon Research Centre. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Saskatchewan and a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.

The Hon. John Streicker was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election for the 34th Legislative Assembly on November 7, 2016. He was re-elected in the general election for the 35th Legislative Assembly on April 12, 2021.

The Hon. Mr. Streicker was first appointed to the Executive Council of Yukon (cabinet) on December 3, 2016. He is currently Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, Minister of the Public Service Commission, Minister responsible for the Yukon Development Corporation and the Yukon Energy Corporation, and Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate. During the 34th Legislative Assembly he served as Minister of Community Services, Minister responsible for French Language Services Directorate, and Minister responsible for Yukon Liquor Corporation and the Yukon Lottery Commission.

The Hon. Mr. Streicker has been Government House Leader since November 8, 2021.
